Acer President: 'Still Too Early' to Call Windows 8 a Flop

Will My Desktop Work With Windows 8?

Is Windows 8 off to a slow start? Depends which manufacturer you ask. Dell CEO Michael Dell has said that demand for Windows 8 from both consumers and enterprise buyers is, "quite high," whereas Fujitsu president Masami Yamamoto has said the exact opposite ? Windows 8 demand is "weak" and the company will miss its internal targets for PC shipments as a direct result of Windows 8's lackluster appeal thus far.

Take a look at Acer, however, and you're going to get two sides of the same story. Acer's North American president, Emmanuel Fromont, was quoted in The New York Times last week saying that Windows 8 demand remains low ? partially the result of customers being hesitant at adopting the new touch-themed user interface.

"There was not a huge spark in the market," said Fromont, in his interview with the Times. "It's a slow start, there's no question."

Ask Acer's top dog, however, and you'll get a bit more optimism than Fromont's quote seems to suggest. According to Acer president Jim Wong, in an interview with Digitimes, critics are jumping the gun a bit in suggesting that Windows 8 might be a flop.

"In the past, market observers would accuse Windows of lacking innovations. And Windows 8 with brand new features have still been greeted with pessimism. Some observers believe the new interface and touchscreen control will dramatically delay adoption by consumers. But companies must take risks when introducing innovations, and therefore it is still too early to say whether Windows 8 is a success or not."

Wong hasn't been all that thrilled about Microsoft jumping into the hardware space with its Surface tablets ? effectively competing against the very OEMs that it's simultaneously trying to woo with the Windows 8 platform in total. While Acer will release Windows RT-based devices going forward, Wong said that the company plans to focus mainly on x86 architecture, "since the major demand from Windows users is still related to data management."

Windows 8's focus on the "touch" experience for laptops will ultimately allow touchscreen-based laptops to win out over standard laptops, Wong suggests. According to Acer's own research, users only need to spend 20 minutes or so poking at their laptop's screens before they're "hooked" into wanting to touch the screens of other devices they interact with.

In other words, touchscreens are compelling. However, it might take around two to three years for shipments of touch-friendly laptops to ultimately surpass those of their non-pokeable competitors.

Cassini orbiter captures Saturn's swirls

NASA / JPL-Caltech / SSI

Saturn's storm systems swirl in a near-infrared image captured by the Cassini orbiter's camera system on Dec. 24, from a distance of 441,028 miles (709,766 kilometers).

By Alan Boyle

The storms of Saturn ripple through the frame of a black-and-white close-up captured by the Cassini orbiter on Christmas Eve and received on Earth on Wednesday.

"Close-up" is a relative term: When this picture was taken, Cassini was 441,028 miles (709,766 kilometers) away from Saturn, or almost twice the distance between Earth and the moon. Also, "black-and-white" doesn't tell the whole story: The picture was captured through the wide-angle camera's CB2 red filter, which brings out more of the variations in the cloud tops of the planet's atmosphere. For an even more dramatic illustration of the effect, compare the photos accompanying this report about Saturn's north polar vortex.

So what's black and white and red all over? This picture answers the riddle.

For more pictures from Cassini, including a top-10 photo slideshow?and?raw imagery from last weekend's flyby of the Saturnian moon Rhea, check out NASA's Cassini website as well as the online home base for the CICLOPS imaging team. You can also click through these additional stunners from the Cassini mission:

Update for 9:50 p.m. ET: I originally wrote that the CB2 filter was an infrared filter, but NASA says it's just on the edge of the visible-light spectrum, going into the near-infrared, at a wavelength of 751 nm. Good: That makes the riddle even more apt.

'Visiting Angels' provides home health care with a personal touch ...

Montano.

A national home-care chain with over 400 locations across the U.S. and Canada, the Miami branch of Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services has just celebrated its seventh year in business under the ownership and direction of business partners Anthony Acevedo and Mirian Montano. Although Montano?s family worked in the home health care profession and she worked as a senior companion while attending college, both she and Acevedo come primarily from the retail industry.

The unique perspective into home care that their previous jobs gave them delivered benefits almost immediately.

?When we first called our competitors around Miami, we found customer service was not emphasized in this very personal business,? says Acevedo. ?All things being equal, most clients want an organization that they can communicate with and delivers the services promised.?

These refreshing insights, as well as an emphasis on upholding the highest standards of healthcare, have allowed Visiting Angels to continue to provide much needed help for seven years.

Visiting Angels is essentially a Florida licensed nurse registry. They use only experienced caregivers and their filtering process is thorough. Hiring only nurses with two or more years experience in the homecare field,Visiting Angels also uses a private background screening company to sort through the applicants that remain following an initial FBI fingerprinting process. All of these safeguards ensure that when one of their nurses arrives at a client?s door they have gone through a rigorous procedure that ensures both quality and trustworthiness.

?We pay our caregivers a good wage and look for those who have the compassion to care for our clients,? says Acevedo.

Midway through last year, the company signed with Home Care Pulse, a national quality management company that specializes in increasing client and caregiver satisfaction in the homecare field. Six months later, they were awarded the Best of Homecare award for 2012 for registering among the highest in six separate categories of excellence.

?This was an affirmation of six years of consistently focusing on great customer service,? says Acevedo. ?We take the feedback of our clients and caregivers very seriously and use it to create the best services in our area.?

The benefits of choosing in-home care over that received in a nursing home extend beyond merely domestic comforts and increased privacy. Keeping a loved one in their home generally costs less, and it can extend their lives.

?The simple fact is that most people live longer if they are at home,? says Acevedo. ?Studies have shown that if our seniors remain in familiar, safe surroundings, they have a better quality of life and experience extended longevity.?

Regardless of what decision a family makes regarding their eldest members, Acevedo and Montano both believe that the top priority should be placed on the well being of senior citizens.

?We have a societal obligation to care for our elderly,? he says.

Visiting Angels of Miami is located at 9990 SW 77th Ave., Suite 328.

Paintings outrage Islamic hard-liners in Pakistan

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) ? Pakistan's leading arts college has pushed boundaries before in this conservative nation. But when a series of paintings depicting Muslim clerics in scenes with strong homosexual overtones sparked an uproar and threats of violence by Islamic extremists, it was too much.

Officials at the National College of Arts in the eastern city of Lahore shut down its academic journal, which published the paintings, pulled all its issues out of bookstores and dissolved its editorial board. Still, a court is currently considering whether the paintings' artist, the journal's board and the school's head can be charged with blasphemy.

The college's decision to cave to Islamist pressure underscores how space for progressive thought is shrinking in Pakistan as hardline interpretations of Islam gain ground. It was also a marked change for an institution that has long been one of the leading defenders of liberal views in the country.

Pakistan is an overwhelmingly Muslim nation, and the majority of its citizens have long been fairly conservative. But what has grown more pronounced in recent years is the power of religious hardliners to enforce their views on members of the population who disagree, often with the threat of violence.

The government is caught up in a war against a domestic Taliban insurgency and often seems powerless to protect its citizens. At other times it has acquiesced to hardline demands because of fear, political gain or a convergence of beliefs.

"Now you have gun-toting people out there on the streets," said Saleema Hashmi, a former head of arts college. "You don't know who will kill you. You know no one is there to protect you."

The uproar was sparked when the college's Journal of Contemporary Art and Culture over the summer published pictures of a series of paintings by artist Muhammad Ali.

Particularly infuriating to conservatives were two works that they said insulted Islam by mixing images of Muslim clerics with suggestions of homosexuality, which is deeply taboo in Pakistan.

One titled "Call for Prayer" shows a cleric and a shirtless young boy sitting beside each other on a cot. The cleric fingers rosary beads as he gazes at the boy, who seductively stretches backward with his hands clasped behind his head.

Mumtaz Mangat, a lawyer who petitioned the courts to impose blasphemy charges, argued the image implied the cleric had "fun" with the boy before conducting the traditional Muslim call for prayer.

A second painting shows the same cleric reclining in front of a Muslim shrine, holding a book by Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho in one hand as he lights a cigarette for a young boy with the other. A second young boy, who is naked with his legs strategically crossed to cover his genitals, sits at the cleric's feet. The painting has caused particular uproar because verses from Islam's holy book, the Quran, appear on the shrine.

Aasim Akhtar, an Islamabad-based art critic who wrote an essay accompanying the paintings in the journal, wrote that Ali's mixing of images was "deliberately, violently profane," aimed at challenge "homophobic" beliefs that are widespread in Pakistani society.

"Ali redefines the divine through a critique of authority and the hypocrisy of the cleric," wrote Akhtar, an Islamabad-based art critic who is also listed as a potential defendant in the blasphemy complaint.

Jamaat-ud-Dawa, widely believed to be a front for the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group, issued a statement after the paintings were published demanding the college issue a public apology and withdraw all issues of the journal.

College staff members also began receiving anonymous text messages threatening violence, said a member of the journal's editorial board. They were afraid to push back for fear of being killed, he said, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of being targeted.

Extremists gunned down two prominent Pakistani politicians last year for speaking out against the country's harsh blasphemy laws, which can mean life in prison or even death. Human rights activists have criticized the laws, saying they are often used to persecute religious minorities or settle personal scores.

Yahya Mujahid, the spokesman for Jamaat-ud-Dawa, denied the group sent any threats but said the state should punish those responsible.

"It's part of Western and American plans to malign Islam," claimed Mujahid.

A court considering whether to press blasphemy charges held its latest session in mid-December, but it has not said when it will rule whether such charges apply in the case.

Shahram Sarwar, a lawyer representing the college's editorial board, said his clients did not intend to hurt anyone's feelings but he was prepared to apologize on their behalf if they did.

Besides shutting down the journal, the college also closed the department where its staff worked, said Sarwar.

The current head of the National Arts College, Shabnam Khan, denied the institution caved to pressure from hardliners, saying the editorial staff quit voluntarily. She said the department was closed because no one was left to run it.

A member of the editorial board disputed this version of events, saying the college administration asked him and his colleagues to resign. He spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being targeted by extremists.

The school has long been a progressive voice. A research project at the college in 2008 focused on the idea that rising Islamic conservatism and violent religious fanaticism was a fundamental threat to peace and democracy in Pakistan. In the 1980s, when former dictator Gen. Zia ul-Haq, a notorious Islamist, ordered all female students and teachers to cover their hair, the college pushed back.

Individual graduates have pushed the envelope with their work. Amra Khan's latest work, which was exhibited at the college and a gallery in Karachi this year, included Muslim veils embroidered with a pink Playboy bunny and The Rolling Stones' big red lips logo.

Evidence of the growing influence of Islamic hardliners abounds in Pakistan. In September, clerics wielding sticks forced their way into a wedding reception in the southern city of Ghotki to stop the guests from singing and dancing. A different set of clerics forced a five-star hotel to cancel a planned concert in August in the northwest town of Bhurban because they argued the music was counter to Islam.

Hardliners have had success influencing Pakistani institutions as well. The Supreme Court ordered the country's media regulatory body in August to look into blocking "vulgar" and "obscene" content on TV in response to a petition filed by conservative Islamists.

In November, the government's telecommunications arm banned late-night cell phone call packages, saying they encouraged immoral behavior by young people. The government banned YouTube earlier this year because of an anti-Islam video posted on the site, and one of the country's highest courts has blocked access to Facebook twice because of material considered anathema to Islam.

Khan, the head of the college, refused to discuss the case in more detail because of the court proceedings, but said that people across the political spectrum were becoming more alarmed by the use of violence to enforce views.

"I have heard recently even from conservative people that enough is enough," said Khan. "It is wrong that people interfere in others' lives, that people interfere in others' beliefs."

More than a turnaround, Toyota sees record-breaking sales in 2013

Despite the Japanese earthquake and tsunami which interrupted production in 2011, and massive safety-related recalls this year, Toyota Motor Corp. expects to finish 2012 with 9.7 million vehicle sales, more than ever before.

Toyota?expects to sell a record 9.7 million vehicles this year, bouncing back by 22 percent from a disaster-struck 2011. It has set an even higher target of 9.91 million vehicles for 2013.

The numbers released this week underline?Toyota?Motor Corp.'s solid turnaround from supply disruptions caused by the earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan in 2011 that had hurt global production and sales.

They also underline the Japanese automaker's ambitions to move past the woes from massive recalls that began in 2009, especially in North America.

On Wednesday,?Toyota?said it reached a settlement of more than $1 billion to resolve hundreds of lawsuits from?Toyota?owners who said the value of their cars and trucks plunged after the recalls involving unintended acceleration problems in?Toyota?vehicles.

Under the settlement, which still needs approval from a U.S. district judge,?Toyota?will offer cash payments to people who sold vehicles or turned in leased vehicles between September 2009 and December 2010.

It will also retrofit about 3.2 million vehicles with a brake override system, which ensures a stop when the brakes are applied even if the gas pedal is depressed.

Toyota, which makes the Prius hybrid, Camry sedan and Lexus luxury models, recalled more than 14 million vehicles in 2009 and 2010 worldwide over a variety of defects, including faulty floor mats, sticky gas pedals and braking problems.

Before those safety lapses, which damaged its once pristine reputation for quality, and the financial crisis that hurt overall auto sales in 2008,?Toyota?had been targeting global vehicles sales of 10 million vehicles.

The latest target shows?Toyota?is well on track toward reaching its goal.?Toyota?is also likely to regain its crown as the world's No. 1 automaker this calendar year, dethroning General Motors Co. of the U.S.

Toyota?sales have been roaring back in recent months, not only in the U.S. market but also in emerging markets such as Indonesia.

Another sign of?Toyota's?determination to put its woes behind it is the record $17.4 million fine it paid earlier this month, as ordered by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, for failing to quickly report floor mat problems with some of its Lexus models. That follows $48.8 million in fines?Toyota?paid for three violations in 2010.

But?Toyota?officials have said the latest fine is not an admission of a defect but a demonstration of its desire to get on with business and avoid prolonged litigation. The company has instituted more careful product development and empowered regional units to respond to complaints and to deal more quickly with quality problems.

The one key market where?Toyota?has suffered sales declines recently is China, where a territorial dispute flared up earlier this year and set off widespread anti-Japanese sentiment, riots and boycotts.

Wednesday's settlement did not include claims by people who seek compensation for injury and death due to so-called sudden acceleration. The first trial in those lawsuits is set for February.

"Toyota?wants to put its unintended acceleration recalls behind, once and for all, and, as costly as it might be, this settlement will allow them to remove most of the lingering financial uncertainty," said Jesse Toprak, auto analyst with TrueCar.com.

"Toyota's?outstanding performance this year is a proof that consumer sentiment for the company's products has already recovered to a degree as if nothing ever happened," he said.

AP Interview: Egypt liberal: Charter illegitimate

CAIRO (AP) ? One of Egypt's leading opposition figures on Monday pledged continued resistance to his country's Islamist-oriented constitution even if it is declared to have passed, contending that the process was fundamentally illegitimate.

Unofficial tallies say nearly two-thirds voted in favor of the draft constitution, but turnout was so low that opponents are arguing that the vote should be discounted.

Hamdeen Sabahi, who placed third in the nation's first free presidential race over the summer, said in an interview with The Associated Press that the majority of Egypt's people are not Islamists.

He argued that the string of election triumphs by President Mohammed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood group are the result of unfair electoral practices and key mistakes by the liberal opposition, particularly a lack of unity and organization.

"The Muslim Brotherhood is a minority ? this is for sure. They get majority votes because of division within the opposition," he said. "If there is transparency (in voting) and unity among civil groups, then surely the majority will turn from the Brotherhood."

Sabahi said the Islamist groups in the country "for sure have tried to steal" the revolution that toppled authoritarian President Hosni Mubarak neat two years ago ? "but we will prevent them."

Sabahi said the National Salvation Front ? a union of key opposition forces that coalesced in the fight against the draft constitution ? is not calling for civil disobedience in rejection of the Islamist-drafted constitution, but for a new constitution through peaceful means.

The path toward such an outcome appears uncertain at best ? especially as Sabahi rejected the notion, somewhat plausible in Egypt, of the military stepping in to undo the inconvenient outcomes of politics.

In a sign of the opposition leadership's efforts to coalesce, Sabahi said the grouping would be led in the interim by Nobel laureate Mohamed ElBaradei, the former head of the Vienna-based United Nations nuclear agency.

No confirmation of that was immediately available from ElBaradei.

In the interview, the silver-maned, charismatic former journalist seemed to embody the frustrations of liberal Egyptians today: While championing the democracy and lauding the 2011 revolution that felled Mubarak, they reject the outcome of that revolution, yet seem at something of a loss to cause a change of course.

Tens of thousands of Egyptians took to the streets weeks before the referendum to demand a new assembly with greater diversity write the charter. Instead, an Islamist-dominated assembly hurriedly passed it before a court could rule on the body's legitimacy, and Morsi himself issued decrees, later rescinded, that gave him near absolute powers to push the constitution to a referendum.

Backers of the Brotherhood and others Islamist parties also rallied in support of the charter, leaving the country split and leading to violent clashes between the two camps that killed 10 outside the presidential palace in Cairo this month. That created the impression that street protests can be conjured up to support either side in the current divide.

But only around 30 percent of eligible voters participated in the referendum on the divisive charter. Of that number, unofficial figures estimate that 64 percent voted in support of it.

Sabahi said the low voter turnout shows people were not convinced by the Brotherhood's slogans ? nor with the opposition's.

"This means that the battle for politics is concentrated on survival, food, jobs and prices ? daily struggles that are the priority of all Egyptians," he said.

Under such circumstances, he said, it was illogical to enshrine the document as a constitution that can be amended only by supermajorities in parliament.

Critics say the new constitution seeks to entrench Islamic rule in Egypt and that the charter does not sufficiently protect the rights of women and minority groups. Morsi and his supporters say the constitution is needed to restore stability in the country, install an elected parliament, build state institutions and renew investor confidence in the economy.

In a reflection of the complex nuances at play, Sabahi refused to describe the current conflict roiling Egypt as a clash between secularism and theocracy, saying that in the Arab world, religion and public life could never be distinct in accordance with the Western model.

Rather, he said, the issue was preventing the Brotherhood from establishing a "tyranny" as a political movement not unlike that of the previous authoritarian regime.

He likened Morsi to the ousted leader, Mubarak, saying the Brotherhood is after absolute power.

"He (Morsi) reached power democratically, but is not exercising power democratically," he said, adding that the Brotherhood "wants to establish a system of tyranny in their benefit."

Regarding the fears of theocracy, Sabahi said, "We are against separation of religion and state ... The intellect of the Arab region, and Egypt, is built essentially on religion and specifically the Islamic religion."

Nonetheless, Sabahi said the opposition would continue to fight the constitution, arguing that the low turnout made it illegitimate.

"From the beginning the National Salvation Front said this constitution does not represent the people," he said. "This constitution is not one of national consensus, but of national division."

He said the NSF would now try to remain united in preparation for possible participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

He said the front has no immediate plans to unite under one party, but that as a coalition they could win a majority of seats if electoral laws mandated an end to political proselytizing in mosques and placed a limit on the funds used for political campaigns.

Another key issue for the opposition has been enabling people to vote outside their home district. The absence of this has aided the Islamists, who have the money to bus supporters back home to vote. The opposition, though, has also warned that rigging could be made easier if people vote from any location and point to the current use of Brotherhood-manned buses to transport poor voters.

"I am sure that the non-Islamists are the real majority in Egypt. But the Muslim Brotherhood enjoys strong organization, and the forces that oppose them do not have the same organization or finances," he said.

The Brotherhood emerged as the country's strongest political force after the popular uprising that toppled Mubarak nearly two years ago. They won the most seats in parliament, before it was dissolved by the courts, and won the presidency. Liberal and secular groups have consistently failed to beat the Brotherhood at the polls since.

That was until Sabahi, a charismatic populist, appeared as a surprise presidential contender against Morsi and his rival, Ahmed Shafiq, Mubarak's last prime minister, an ex-military man who lured voters with promises of stability.

Sabahi had a last-minute surge after campaigning on promises to help the poor and harkening back to the nationalist, socialist ideology of Gamel Abdel-Nasser, Egypt's president from 1956 to 1970.

Would Sabahi ? known as a fervent opponent of Israel ? cancel the landmark 1979 peace treaty if he one day ascended to power?

No, he said. The main issues facing Egypt today are resolving internal problems, especially endemic poverty ? and he would not risk that priority issue by courting war with a neighbor.

In contrast to the Brotherhood, which has several offices in every Egyptian governorate, Sabahi spoke from the office of a famous Egyptian movie director, who lent him the space.

"The Brotherhood is losing every day. Mohammed Morsi is losing every day," Sabahi insisted, sitting among black and white pictures of Egyptian cinema actors emblematic of the 1960s ? a time of resurgent Arab nationalism less complicated by the politics of religion.

Coal set to surpass oil as world?s top fuel by 2017

London: Powered by the growth in emerging market giants China and India, coal is set to surpass oil as as the world?s top fuel source by around 2017, the International Energy Agency forecast today.

Coal?s share of the global energy mix continues to rise, and by 2017 coal will come close to surpassing oil as the world?s top energy source, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said, releasing its annual Medium-Term Coal Market Report (MCMR).

China and India will lead the growth in coal consumption over the next five years. Reuters

China and India will lead the growth in coal consumption over the next five years. The report said China will surpass the rest of the world in coal demand during the outlook period, while India will become the largest seaborne coal importer and second-largest consumer, surpassing the US.

?Thanks to abundant supplies and insatiable demand for power from emerging markets, coal met nearly half of the rise in global energy demand during the first decade of the 21st Century,? IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven said.

?This report sees that trend continuing. In fact, the world will burn around 1.2 billion more tonnes of coal per year by 2017 compared to today, equivalent to the current coal consumption of Russia and the US combined.Coal?s share of the global energy mix continues to grow each year, and if no changes are made to current policies, coal will catch oil within a decade,? Hoeven said.

Although the growth rate of coal slows from the breakneck pace of the last decade, global coal consumption by 2017 stands at 4.32 billion tonnes of oil equivalent, versus around 4.4 billion tonnes for oil, based on IEA medium-term projections.

The IEA expects that coal demand will increase in every region of the world except in the US, where coal is being pushed out by natural gas. The report notes that in the absence of a high carbon price, only fierce competition from low-priced gas can effectively reduce coal demand.

Learn The Tips Of Real Estate Buying Here - Maynas Eric

Buying property, especially a family home, is a very popular goal and for some, even becomes the beginning of a new real estate career. Being able to be sure that you are buying real estate from someone who is reliable and dependable is more important than ever. So, if you?ve been thinking about getting into the game, there?s no better time than the present to begin looking at property to purchase. This article provides several useful tips that can help you make the best real estate purchasing decisions.

When you are looking at purchasing a property, it is crucial that you hire a real estate agent with a good reputation. You can check reputations online as well as with the Better Business Bureau. Ask reliable friends and family to get an even better idea of who to trust.

When considering purchasing a house that comes with a great view, it is important to refrain from paying an increased cost simply for the view. You may love the view, but it won?t add any value during selling time. Purchasing a new house for the view is great, but don?t pay too much for it.

TIP! When you are planning to purchase a large and costly commercial property, look for a reliable investment partner. This will help you qualify for the commercial mortgage loan easier as you proceed in buying the property.

If you want to purchase a new home, do some research into the neighborhoods of any residences that you are interested in. Lots of information about neighborhoods can be found online. Even extremely tiny towns have information available online. To make certain you will have a good future in the town you are considering, be sure to do a little research on such subjects as average salaries, unemployment rates and population growth.

Get as much information about potential rental properties as possible. If you are thinking about buying a rental property, look at the records for this pertaining to the property for a couple years back or more. This is to make sure that whoever you?re buying the property from is being truthful about how much money can be made with the property. Most lenders also need you to prove you can pay for the loans before they will consider issuing them to you.

Go online and search the sex offender registry in the area of any home you are thinking about buying. Home sellers and real estate agents are not required by law to pass on any information about sex offenders in a neighborhood; it is therefore imperative that find out this data for yourself. Make sure you do your part of the research!

TIP! When you are in the market for a new home, use people with whom you are familiar or have worked with previously. Sometimes the easy way out such as using the realtor?s inspector, is not such a good idea.

Always do some research about the neighborhood before buying property. If the neighborhood isn?t suitable for you and your family, you will probably regret making the purchase. Be aware of what you are buying, including the surrounding homes, businesses and people.

You should do research prior to purchasing a property. If you do not research the property you are interested in purchasing, you may make a bad decision and purchase a piece of property that will cost you time and money. Therefore, it is very important to find out all the information that you can such as the crime rate, property age and what the surrounding area offers.

It is important to remain patient and be realistic when seeking a property to purchase. It can take a long time to find that property that can fit your strategy and goals.

TIP! When the time comes for you to buy property, it is vital to hire a reputable real estate agent. The BBB, or Better Business Bureau, is a great place for you to acquire the information you need about your real estate agent.

You should be able to see why this career and hobby is so popular. There are a ton of ways to go about it. Additionally, there is a wealth of information to learn the most effective methods to succeed. By taking the tips from the article you read here, you are now on the path towards buying the property that fits your needs.

'If you do good, you'll feel good': Ann Curry explains origins of #26Acts of Kindness

Antoine Sanfuentes

Ann Curry's inspiration for #26Acts of Kindness dates back to an experience she had while reporting on the genocide in Darfur in 2007, and the joy that giving Polaroid pictures of children brought to mothers who had never held a photograph of their kids.

By Ann Curry, NBC News

After being in Newtown, I woke up the next morning and thought about what could be done. What is the answer to this kind of national suffering?? And I remembered a moment on the edge of Darfur, when I came upon a woman who was elderly and in the hospital, recovering from burns after an attack by Janjaweed militias. She was surrounded in the hospital, by younger women carrying babies, and I asked her to tell the story of how she had suffered these terrible burns all over her body. I learned that she had tried to rescue her invalid husband when her village was attacked and her house was set on fire. She tried to carry her husband out of her house and stayed so long that the thatched roof of her house came down, the hot embers giving her 3rd degree burns.? But she was unable to save her husband. Her husband died.

I remember walking out of that hospital, and the producer saw the look on my face. He said, ?Are you okay?? And I said, ?No.? And without even thinking, I remember going to our team van and pulling out a Polaroid camera I had brought on that trip. And then I went to all of these women with their children who were in the? courtyard of the hospital, knowing that they had never owned a photograph ? ever ? of their child. I went around from woman to woman, and I took pictures of them, I took pictures of them with their child, or just of their child alone ? without even thinking, just snapping pictures. The first time I did it, I remember giving a photograph to a woman, and she looked at this black square with this quizzed look on her face, and I said, ?Just wait one minute! Just wait one minute,? holding up one finger. And then I watched her face melt as she watched her child?s face slowly appear on that Polaroid.
?
It made me feel better. So I went from mother to mother to mother until I ran out of film.
?
After the experience in Newtown. I thought, ?What if? Imagine if everyone could commit to doing one act of kindness for every one of those children killed in Newtown.? So that?s what I tweeted. And guess what? People committed. I said in my tweet, ?I?m in. RT if you?re in.? Not only did they commit to 20 acts of kindness, they wanted to up it to 26 acts of kindness

?

for every child and adult who was lost at the school. Some even debated maybe we should include the mother, who died, at 27 acts. Some debated maybe we should include the killer as well as he was struggling and in pain.
?
I think it?s up to you. Commit to how many acts of kindness you want to. It?s really your choice.

It started with a simple idea: Twitter hashtags #26Acts and #20Acts to encourage acts of kindness after the horrific shootings in Newtown, Conn., and multiplied into a movement of kindness. NBC's Ann Curry reports.

What?s really remarkable to me is how many people responded. They are the ones who carried the ball. They are the ones who chose what to do. People would tweet back, ?I?ve done two!? ?I bought coffee for a guy in line!? ?I bought toys for homeless children!? ?I?ve got 18 more to go!? or ?24 more to go!? ? whatever number they were trying to reach.

I was inspired by them. So I started tweeting about what people were doing. Some people thought it was boasting when they would say ?I?ve done this? or ?I?ve done that.? I don?t think so. I think that whenever you show by example an act of kindness ? big or small ? something that spends a lot of money, or because you don?t have the money, something that doesn?t, all of it is welcome.

There are many questions about Friday's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, but one being asked by just about everyone is how to best honor the victims. In Newtown and across the country, random acts of kindness are being performed in the memory of each person lost. NBC's Andrea Canning reports.

There is no judgment. I think that?s the key. If people want to do it, great. But I think that if they do it, something great happens to you.

When I was tweeting, I noticed that the number one trending topic was something like "ThingsIlikeaboutmyself."? I thought, ?Well, if you do act of kindness, I bet you?ll like even more about yourself.? So that?s what I tweeted.
?
I know the truth: if you do good, you feel good. It?s the most selfish thing you can do. Right now, this country wants to heal. I think the only thing comforting in the face of a tragedy like this is to do something good with it if you can. Be a part of that wave.

Here are some ideas to get you started:?

Sandy Hook shooting: Parenting common sense and solace

In the Sandy Hook shooting aftermath, parents can make their own logical solace: focus on the good and that happened that day, like the bravery and strength of the teachers; stop rehearsing the horror by watching the endless media loop; and don't forget? ... think of Sandy Hook two months from now.

Sandy Hook put us all in uncharted territory. And in our fast paced, Wikipedia world we want to make sense of the senseless now. Well, we can?t. But there are some things we can do. Beginning with ourselves.

Most parents are very good at comforting their children. They look under beds and in closets to prove no monsters are lurking. They dry tears, hug and hold on, because they know instinctively that the words they say are never as important as the acts of kindness parents perform on a daily hourly, moment-by-moment basis. That's why they became parents, because parenting equals love. And most of the time our children's fears aren't our own. So we can handle them calmly and rationally.? We say, "See you in the morning light," and mean it.?

But the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. last Friday are unprecedented and unimaginable. Although there have been acts of violence before at schools, the magnitude of the shootings at Sandy Hook put us all in uncharted territory. And in our fast paced, Wikipedia world we want to make sense of the senseless now.? Well, we can?t.? But there are some things we can do. Beginning with ourselves.
?
1.? We can act like the brave teacher at Sandy Hook, who hid all her students in a closet, telling them everything was going to be alright, even though she didn?t think it would be. She kept them calm by maintaining order, by telling them to smile, by telling them she loved them. What she did was powerful, and those children not only survived because of her, they also walked out of that closet with at least a small amount of equilibrium. And comfort.
?
2.? We can listen to the news reports in small amounts. It?s normal and necessary to know what?s going on in our world, but not to get hooked on every sound bite, some of which are often wrong. Now more than ever we need to monitor our children?s screen time.? We may even want to unplug for a few days.

3.? We can talk to our children about the other acts of courage and kindness that transpired at Sandy Hook. The custodian who warned the teachers and children, the first responders who got the other children out and told them to hold on to each other and keep their eyes closed. We can help them to focus on the good that transpired that day, not the horrible.
?
4.? We can realize that the quick fix fixes nothing. That we need to hit re-send, over and over again, in our prayers for ourselves and others. Yes prayers, even atheists can pray, because by prayer I mean thinking thoughts of love and kindness about the people of Newtown. And that?s exactly what I mean.

5.? Finally, a practical suggestion: The tragedy occurred on Dec. 14.? Two months later will be Valentine's Day.? What if your family sent a Valentine card, to Sandy Hook Elementary School, or the town of Newtown?? Just a card signed by you and your kids that says, "We love you and we?re still grieving your loss. We?re thinking of you, we?re keeping you in our prayers." The words won?t really matter. It?s the thought, the act, the love, that counts.

Newtown mourns: Candles, stuffed animals, tears

John Makely / NBC News

Erin Nemeth, 21, and Kelley Sullivan, 21, talk about some of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting and their families on Saturday in Newtown, Conn..

By Miranda Leitsinger, NBC News

Pete Kearney, 47, lit a candle at a vigil near the fire station next to Sandy Hook Elementary School. A father of two teenagers and a 22-year-old, tears streamed down his face as he walked away from the site late Saturday.

Kearney said he?had read out loud the names of every victim of Friday's school massacre to his 17-year-old son to take in the loss to the community.

?It just felt never-ending ? overpowering, overwhelming,? said Kearney, a golf course greenskeeper whose children live with him. ?It felt real before that, but then, you know, you see the ages and the names ? it's just incredible, so sad. I don't think I have the words.?

Noting that the 20 slain children were just 6 or 7, Kearney asked, ?Wouldn't they still be home with their mom??

He said that it might be?a first step in the grieving process, and that with the names, perhaps "we can start reaching out to some of the victims' families, helping them heal and in that step, help ourselves heal, and move forward all of us. I guess it's all virgin territory, all of us. No answers here."

?

Kearney hoped to return later that evening with his daughter to the ongoing vigil, where people were placing flowers, stuffed animals and lighting candles. He broke down at times talking with a reporter about the tragedy that struck their community, noting that one of his children's friends had lost their mother.

?Nobody knows what to do, I think. You light a candle, say a prayer,? he said, his voice trembling as the words trailed off.

At makeshift memorials at the fire station and elsewhere across town, people gathered to mourn, cry, pray and sing.

Friends Kelley Sullivan and Erin Nemeth, both 21, brought 20 Beanie Babies to the fire station in Sandy Hook, where on Friday parents of victims waited to learn their children's fate. Even before the names were released, Nemeth said she knew that a boy and a girl on her block had been killed.

?To me it makes it seem even more surreal? with the release of the names, Nemeth said. ?It just doesn't seem like it's real,? she said, shuddering.

The small Connecticut town of Newtown is grieving in the aftermath of Friday's deadly school shootings. NBC's Anne Thompson reports.

?And just like on the pictures are going to start coming up and stories of these little kids and they're just like innocent lives of what they enjoyed to do and now they won't be able to do anything,? Sullivan said.

?People don't really understand how young these children actually were ? most of the born in 2006, which to us does not sound long ago, because it wasn't. And that's when they started their life and it's over already,? she added.

Nemeth said they were supporting the family of a victim ?as we can providing meals. ? We can't even begin to make these families feel better right now.?

The pair, friends since the seventh grade, said they each brought 10 of their favorite Beanie Babies to leave at the memorial at the fire station.

The dolls represent ?the innocence and the youth of those people who were lost,? said a teary-eyed Sullivan.?

Countries that have experienced similar tragedies tonight stand shoulder-to-shoulder with America as it mourns the deaths of 28, most of them young children. NBC's Annabel Roberts reports.

Noel Hernandez said he and his wife Lizbeth came from Shelton, two towns away, to "absorb everything that's going on." They stood in front of a Christmas tree down the street where some had gathered to leave mementos and where small, candle-illuminated decorations?had been placed in a memorial on the ground.

?As Puerto Ricans, they also were moved by the death of a Puerto Rican girl who was among those killed at the school.

"Trying to make sense of it," said the father of seven. "We always think how would we react if that would happen to ... us?"

?At the fire station vigil, he said: "It was ... quiet.?You can almost feel what everybody was thinking."?

Dr. Bela Kudish | Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery | Orlando Health ...

Cosmetic vulvovaginal surgery creates considerable controversy. As gynecologists, we are commonly asked questions about sex, including lack of interest, pain with intercourse or difficulty with arousal or orgasm. More recently, dissatisfaction with the appearance of external genitalia, labia, or complaints of a ?loose vagina? after vaginal childbirth have spawned interest in newer sexual enhancement procedures. With approximately 43% of US women experiencing some form of sexual dysfunction ? the importance of addressing sexual health has been brought to the forefront of health issues by organizations such as the WHO and has become part of the United States medical school curriculum.

Cosmetic procedures are often lumped in with bona fide reconstructive pelvic surgery operations, such as anti-incontinence and prolapse repairs, muddling the discussion of ?normal? pelvic floor anatomy and dysfunction for many women. To add to the complexity of this issue, cosmetic vulvovaginal surgery is now heavily advertised by private offices and media as a way to improve vaginal appearance or enhance sexual satisfaction. These cosmetic procedures include so-called ?laser vaginal rejuvenation,? ?designer vaginoplasty,? ?revirgination,? ?aesthetic vulvar liposculpturing,? and ?G-spot amplification.? Some of these surgeries are modifications of traditional urogynecologic procedures. Some are done to change the size or shape of labia majora or minora or to restore the hymenal ring.

Vaginal rejuvenation surgery is considered the third fastest-growing procedure in aesthetic plastic surgery. The costs of these procedures range from $3,800 for laser hymenoplasty, $6,800 for laser reduction labioplasty to $8,400 for laser anterior colporrhaphy, posterior colporrhaphy, and perineoplasty. Advocates of vaginal rejuvenation procedures state that they are providing a service for women who have legitimate concerns about the appearance and/or function of their bodies and have the right to seek physical enhancement as with any other body part even in the absence of dysfunction or disfigurement. Opponents of vulvovaginal rejuvenation question the safety, efficacy, the added benefits from a laser, and psychosocial benefit of these procedures in the absence of legitimate outcome data. Many also believe that external vulvar procedures may affect outward appearance of the genitalia but may not serve a functional role.

When a woman presents to the OB-GYN?s office with a request to undergo cosmetic vulvovaginal surgery, a gynecologist should first explore the rationale behind the woman?s desire for this procedure before agreeing to perform surgery. The range of normal appearance of labia minora and majora is quite wide. A gynecologist should educate women about the diverse appearance of external genitalia. Because many women view these surgeries as relatively risk-free and do not expect significant discomfort or problems with the postoperative recovery, it is important for the surgeon to inform the patient fully regarding treatment alternatives and the potential risks of pain, infection, scarring, negative effects on sexuality as well as the purported benefits of the proposed surgical options. Furthermore, patients should be informed that there are no established stringent guidelines in training, surgical techniques, or postoperative monitoring of care after these surgeries.
